Evorel is a popular and safe hormone patch to relieve the physical symptoms of menopause. Unpleasant symptoms include hot flushes, mood swings and urinary incontinence. Symptoms originate when female sex hormones, estrogen and progesterone drop dramatically due to the end of menstruation. All women do not get strong symptoms, but for those with a significant drop in the quality of their menopausal symptoms, hormone replacement therapy is recommended.

Hormone replacement therapy can effectively alleviate the alleviate the symptoms and facilitate the transition period. The advantage of the hormone patch is the fact that its easy to use. The new patch is attached to the skin every 3-4 days. Two types of Evorel HRT are available. Evorel Conti is continuous treatment where the hormonal dose keeps the same day after day. Evorel Sequi, on the other hand, is a periodic treatment that releases a variety of hormones in different stages of the menstrual cycle.

How does the Evorel patch work?

Evorel treatment includes artificial versions of the female sex hormones, estrogen and progesterone. These hormones release into the body through the skin. The releasing estrogen smoothes the body’s own hormone balance and reduces the symptoms of menopause. Progesterone prevents estrogen levels from rising too much. Too much estrogen in the body can cause the mucous membranes of the uterus to thicken and thus, increases the risk of cancer. However, in combination with Evorel, this risk is low due to added progesterone.

There are two versions of Evorel, Evorel Conti and Evorel Sequi. Their effects differ slightly, so these two treatments are suitable for different people depending on where on their menopause they are.

Evorel Conti

Evorel Conti is well suited for those who have had no erythema and who have had their last period of at least 6 months before.

Evorel Conti is used as a continuous treatment, whereby hormone dosage remains the same. The patch releases both estrogen and progesterone for 3-4 days, after which a new patch is replaced.

Most women do not receive regular vaginal bleeding during the use.

Evorel Sequi

The sequential Evorel Sequi treatment is suitable for women of early or middle age menopausal women with menstrual bleeding.

Evorel Sequi treatment comes with two types of patches, Evorel 50 μg/24-hour patches and the aforementioned Evorel Conti patches. Evorel 50 μg/24-hour patch contains only estrogen, Evorel Conti of both estrogen and progesterone. In the beginning, Evorel 50 μg/24-hour patch is attached to the skin and replaced twice a week for two weeks. Thereafter, Evorel Conti is attached and replaced twice a week for two weeks. Two different types of patches release a variety of hormones depending on the phase of the menstrual cycle.

A periodic mucous discharge occurs monthly, usually from the last Evorel Conti treatment week (i.e week 4).

Instructions of use

Evorel hormone patch is easy to use. The patch releases a suitable dose of hormone into the body. The patch is small and unobtrusive, only 2 mm thick and does not hinder normal life in any way.

The patch is placed on exposed skin, preferably below the waist. Good places are the thigh and the buttocks. The patches should not be glued to the arms or close to the breasts. Observe the location so that the clothing will not accidentally rub the patch.

  • Make sure your skin is dry and clean
  • Do not stick the patch on broken or irritated skin
  • Avoid glueing the new patch to the same location as the old patch, so you will avoid skin irritation
  • While using the patches, you can exercise, swim and shower as normal

  • skin itching and redness in the patch area
  • aching breasts
  • acne
  • mood swings
  • headache
  • insomnia
  • weight gain
  • heavy periods, if the ovulation has not yet come to an end

The rare side effects that require medical attention are:

  • changes in liver function
  • blood cloths
  • increase in blood pressure

Are there any disadvantages?

Hormone treatments have been studied to be beneficial for women who suffer from menopausal symptoms which affect the quality of life. Evorel patches are safe and clinically tested.

However, hormone replacement therapy is intended for the most temporary use (about 1 to 5 years) to relieve symptoms of menopausal symptoms. Your doctor will always recommend the shortest possible treatment time and the need for therapies should be checked at regular intervals. Symptoms reduce slowly with time, and when they disappear, no hormone therapy is needed anymore.

In the long-term hormone replacement therapy, there is a mild increase in the risk of breast cancer and blood clots. Also the risk of ovarian cancer increases somewhat. It is good to discuss the risk factors with your doctor before starting the treatment.
