A good skin care routine

In order to achieve a clear and clean skin, it is important to have a good skincare routine that is being carried out daily. The two main factors are keeping the skin clean by cleaning off the dirt from the day and by completing the routine by giving it a lot of moisture.

Wash your skin

This is the most important part of a good skincare routine. You should wash your skin at least once every day with a mild face wash. Avoid products containing perfume or such that can dry out or irritate the skin.

Make it part of your daily routine to wash your skin in the evening before going to bed and in the morning after you wake up. This applies to both men and women. For those who wear makeup, it is extra important to wash it off properly. If you leave old make-up on the skin, there are high chances that your skin will develop impurities.

Use a moisturiser

It is important to give your skin plenty of moisture. Especially during winter it is important to pay attention to this so that the skin doesn’t develop any dry patches. If you have a combination or oily skin look for a moisturiser specific to your skin type and steer away from ones that are for dry skin as they can cause further breakouts.

Protect yourself from the sun

The sun can be very damaging to skin if left unprotected. You can easily develop wrinkles, other sun damage and, at worse, skin cancer. It is therefore very important that you protect yourself from the sun with sunscreen. Don’t forget to use protection also during the winter months as the sun can still be very strong, especially if it reflects from the snow. Make sure to wash off the sunscreen in the evening so that the skin can breathe overnight.

Use a face scrub

Use a mild face scrub 1-2 times a week to remove dead skin cells. It is important that you do not use a harsh scrub as these can lead to skin irritation and dehydration.

How do I get rid of impurities?

Acne and other impurities are one of the biggest problems in skincare. Most people have had problems with their skin during their younger years, usually, just little breakouts from time to time, or in more severe cases acne is not only visible on the face but also chest and back. Some people only suffer from blackheads, while others develop inflamed pimples. Due to these differences, it is important to treat your skin based on its needs. If the usual daily skincare routine doesn’t help, it might be time to take a look at your diet or turn to your doctor for more advice.

Blackheads

Comedo is a clogged hair follicle (pore) in the skin. Keratin (skin debris) combines with oil to block the follicle. A comedo can be open (blackhead) or closed by skin (whitehead) and occur with or without acne. You can remove blackheads by washing your skin every morning and night. You should use a mild soap or a product that is intended for face cleaning. This will remove excess oil so no more blackheads are formed. It may be a good idea to steam the skin first so that the pores open properly. For example, you can use a hot cloth, a bucket of warm water or a hot bath.1

There is also a tool that can help you remove blackheads. This tool looks like a small tweezer that can be used to squeeze out the impurities. What comes out is a combination of dead skin cells and oil. Clean the entire face afterwards.

Acne

Most people have experienced acne occasionally during their lives. Often times, it does not cause a major problem but goes away naturally. However, for some, the problem may be greater and affect different parts of life. This can happen if the condition develops into a chronic condition where the skin is constantly full of inflamed pimples.

Acne is often more difficult to get rid of than blackheads because it is an inflammation. The skin also becomes sore and forms cysts.

If you have major problems with acne, a medical solution is often necessary to solve the problem. It can be either a localized cream, such as Skinoren, or birth control pills such as Dianette. In very severe cases you may need to use an antibiotic cure such as Tetralysal, Oxytetracycline or Duac. Co-Cryprindiol is used if the antibiotic is not working.

It’s important that you do not pinch or touch your impurities as it only makes the problems worse. Avoid things that won’t let your skin breathe, such as having hair hanging on your face or using oil-based creams or make-up. Remember to change bed linen often and compile to a good skin care routine.

Acne on the back

The usual place for acne to occur is on the face, which can be hardly cosmetic. If you get a lot of outbreaks of acne on your face you may also suffer from acne on your back. There are many sebaceous glands on your back and it is, therefore, easy to get blackheads and pimples there. This can be incredibly frustrating as it can be very difficult to wash the skin properly and thus, get rid of the pimples.

To avoid getting pimples on your back, there are some tips and advice that you can follow:

  • Avoid using the same t-shirt or apparel for several days in a row
  • Always wash sportswear after each use
  • Change linen and towels often, as oil-based substances can easily be stored in these
  • Always shower after exercise
  • Scrub the skin on the back 1-2 times a week with a mild body scrub
  • If you do not manage to get rid of the impurities you can consider medical treatment such as a cream, antibiotic treatment or birth control if you are a woman
